The Rockland Chapter of NYSSPE will be hosting a PDH lecture about Foundations and Subsurface Improvements on Wednesday, October 18, 2017 at 7:30 am at the office of McLaren Engineering Group, 100 Snake Hill Road, West Nyack, NY 10994. Keithe J. Merl, P.E. from Geo Structures, Inc. will provide an introduction to Geopier Rammed Aggregate Pier (RAP) and Rigid Inclusion systems. These systems are ground improvement technologies that can be used to increase bearing capacity and control settlement of buildings, heavy floor slabs, tanks, and retaining walls and embankments to close tolerance. Depending on site requirements, Geopier systems can be installed using replacement or displacement methods. RAP systems are used to reinforce good to poor soils, including soft to stiff clay and silt; loose to dense sand; organic silt and peat; variable, uncontrolled fill; and soils below the ground water table. They can be used as an alternative to deep foundations or overexcavation, and can provide cost and time savings on sites where building on existing poor soils and/or undocumented fill which might present unacceptable risk to the owner and design team.
The cost of the event is $12/person for Rockland Chapter NYSSPE members and $25/person for non-members. All payments should be made payable to Rockland Chapter NYSSPE and will be accepted at the door.
